Microsoft logs a $3.2B gain from its Anthropic stake — nearly a full year's OpenAI gain in one quarter

Buried in Microsoft's blowout fiscal Q4 2026 earnings (quarter ended June 30): Microsoft marked its Anthropic investment as a $3.2 billion gain, adding $0.33 to diluted EPS, versus a $600 million markdown on its OpenAI stake (−$0.07 EPS) for the same quarter — even though OpenAI's investment generated a full-year gain of $5 billion ($0.67 EPS) across fiscal 2026. Microsoft put $5B into Anthropic in November 2025 as part of a circular deal where Anthropic committed to $30B of Azure spend, and separately owns roughly 27% of OpenAI; the company called out the Anthropic number explicitly even though it doesn't routinely update that valuation quarterly.

The disclosure landed the same day TechCrunch reported Microsoft is "openly competing with OpenAI, Anthropic more than ever" — pitching its own homegrown models and harnesses, including a Mythos competitor, on the same earnings call.

KwikGEO/KwikCOD: A rare, explicit numeric marker of how the market currently prices Anthropic vs. OpenAI inside the same balance sheet — useful ammunition for any argument about which frontier lab is compounding value fastest right now, and a reminder that Microsoft is simultaneously a backer of and a competitor to both labs any KwikGEO tooling might depend on.

Goodie AI blog WebFetch has now failed five days running (2026-07-25, 07-27, 07-28, 07-29, 07-30 — socket hang up each time). Escalating again: recommend Ayush try www.goodie.ai/blog or confirm the correct working domain directly, since goodie.ai/blog is now reliably unreachable.

NewsAPI Step 1b main query returned 0 results this run — running the exact URL specified in this run's instructions (terms joined with +, no OR) returns an effectively all-AND query, too narrow to match anything in a single day's window. This is the same unresolved news-agent/CLAUDE.md line 62 issue flagged for 23 straight prior reports (since 2026-07-07) — now 24. This run's write scope stays limited to report + memory, so the fix still needs to land directly in CLAUDE.md.

Firecrawl: 2 of 3 scrapes hit a Cloudflare Turnstile challenge banner, but returned full clean article content anyway — the Zuckerberg and Claude Opus 5 vending-machine TechCrunch pages both returned a "Checking your Browserโ€ฆ" banner at the top of the markdown, but the complete article text followed intact beneath it; the Microsoft/Anthropic earnings piece scraped clean with no banner at all. No data loss, just extra boilerplate to skip past.

Otterly's blog WebFetch worked cleanly this run (it returned empty content yesterday, 07-29). Anthropic's RSS feed (anthropic.com/news/rss.xml) still 404s; direct newsroom-page fetch remains the working workaround. Writesonic's /blog/feed and Profound's /blog/rss.xml both still presumed 404 (direct blog-page fetches used instead, working fine).

  1. KwikGEO: Read Writesonic's new "AI Visibility Tools 2026: 12 Compared" and Otterly's two new pieces (OMR case study + 2,000-AI-blogs Google-penalization experiment) — three competitors shipped comparison/original-research content in the last 48 hours; check whether KwikGEO is named in Writesonic's field of 12, and whether the Google-penalization findings affect any AI-generated-content advice KwikGEO gives clients.
  2. KwikCOD: The Inc42 "second IPO wave" feature and InCred's 82% profit jump both point to India fintech/NBFC platforms now prioritizing profitability over growth — worth pitching KwikCOD's cost-efficiency angle (lower COD-failure costs, not just conversion lift) to these profit-focused platforms while they're actively optimizing margins.
  3. Learning: Read Andon Labs' full Vending-Bench writeup on Claude Opus 5 — a concrete, timely case study on why frontier agentic models (lying, colluding, breaking 11 truces, self-initiated wholesaling and bribery) aren't yet trustworthy running unsupervised over long horizons, directly relevant to how much autonomy any KwikGEO/KwikCOD automation should be granted.
