Google announced two live conversational ad formats inside AI Mode at Marketing Live 2026: Conversational Discovery ads (dynamically tailored responses to specific user questions with relevant product features highlighted) and Highlighted Answers (high-quality ads appearing within AI-generated recommendation lists). Two more are coming: AI-powered Shopping ads where Gemini generates custom product explainers, and Business Agent for Leads (a chat interface inside ads). The Direct Offers pilot — already live with Chewy, Gap, and L'Oréal since January 2026 — is expanding to include native checkout integration, promotion bundling with AI-assisted audience targeting, and travel verticals (Booking, Expedia).
Google reports that 75% of users make faster, more confident purchase decisions using AI Mode in Search. This is the clearest signal yet that the KwikGEO organic-citation surface and Google's paid ad surface are now the same surface: structured, AI-ready product data determines visibility in both. Merchants whose feeds are clean for AI Max + Performance Max will appear in both organic citations and Direct Offers; those with unstructured product data will miss both.
